Binary Arithmetic

1’s complement arithmetic:
  • Represent all –ve numbers in 1’s complement form
  • Add the numbers.
  • If the result gets end carry, add carry to LSB. This is called end around carry addition.
  • If the result is –ve, take 1’s complement of result and put –ve sign for result.
       Ex: 

2’s complement arithmetic:
  •   Represent –ve numbers in 2’s complement form 
  • Add the numbers
  •  If the result gets end carry, discard it
  • If the result is –ve, take 2’s complement of result and put –ve sign before result.
